The Martinson Group
Celestria Border Collies was founded in 1996. They are owned, handled, bred and loved by Jeanne Hagen-Santiago and family.

It is really a wonder that I wound up with Border Collies, since I grew up with hunting dogs (Black Labrador Retrievers to be exact) and the constant refrain from my dad that “the only good dog is a black Lab”. While our Labs were never show dogs, they were from Champion Field Trial and Master Hunter lines and were used for hunting on a regular basis.

Our beloved Lab, Griffy, recently went to the Rainbow Bridge after a courageous battle with cancer. He was our saintly “puppy chew toy”, guard dog extraordinaire and he strived to be “the Good Dog” in the family. Not that the Border Collies are bad - just a bit mischievous at times!

My original intent and longtime plan was to raise and breed Labs since I have a great love for the breed, was knowledgeable about them and had them all my life. However, about nine years ago I was introduced to the bouncing bunch of BC’s at Lochinbrae Border Collies and that was it! I was hooked! I fell in love with a lovely blue bitch named Dazzler (Charttop Moon Light). Her daughter, Skye (Ch. Skyes of Lochinbrae) came to us about a year later and was our first Border Collie and wonderful foundation bitch.

Border Collies have certainly changed my life - there's no doubt about it! I was and still am totally enamoured with the amount of expression and intelligence these dogs have. Its totally awesome to watch these dogs work a problem out on their own and to observe their drive and work ethic. The combination of grace and athleticism that Border Collies possess is a beauty to behold. This is a breed that will get into your heart and soul like no other. I have been very fortunate to have made some truly wonderful friends and have had excellent mentors in this breed. I hope to return their kindness by educating others new to Border Collies as they have done for me.

Please do some research before deciding if a Border Collie is the right breed for you. Being very active in Border Collie Rescue, I see a lot of abandoned Border Collies due to people buying them and not understanding anything about the breed. They are not a good breed for everyone and are absolute disasters as apartment dogs. They are a herding breed, extremely intelligent, and need to have a job in life. They need a minimum of an hour of good hard exercise a day – just running around the backyard won't do.

As lovely as the temperaments of our dogs are, they are happiest when given something to do and constantly learning new things. Border Collies need to have exercise for their minds as well as their bodies.
